Congratulations to Rabito student Jessica Yuen Named to 2017 SEC Women’s Golf All-Freshman Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – First-year Tiger Jessica Yuen (Bolingbrook, Ill.) was named to the 2017 Southeastern Conference Women’s Golf All-Freshman Team, announced Thursday (May 4) by the league office. Yuen is one of eight players on this year’s SEC All-Freshman squad.
Mizzou has now garnered an SEC All-Freshman Team recipient in each of the past two seasons. Sophomore Emma Allen (Southampton, England) received the nod last year, following her standout 2015-16 campaign.
“It’s an honor to be able to represent my school and be named to the SEC All-Freshman Team,” Yuen said. “Without the support of my teammates and coaches, I wouldn’t be where I am today. It’s awesome to be in a competitive conference playing up against the top players in the country. It’s a great experience and opportunity to challenge myself and further my golf career.”
“This is the second year in a row that we’ve had a freshman earn this honor,” head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer exclaimed. “Jess has been one of the most consistent players for us this season. She’s very poised and calm on the course and she delivered one of her strongest performances of the year at the SEC Championships. Jess and I are looking forward to making the trip to New Mexico to compete in NCAA’s.”
Yuen has enjoyed a standout first-year campaign for the Tigers. She participated in all nine of Mizzou’s tournaments this season, accumulating a team-low average score of 72.81. Yuen finished even par or better four times, highlighted by a 5-under finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Shootout (Oct. 23-25, 2016).
The Bolingbrook, Ill., native finished top 25 individually in seven of her nine tournaments, including a pair of top 10 placements. Within her respective region, Yuen ranks 41st overall individually this season.
